The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is running its event for the 44th year this upcoming September, and it has been an occasion that I have been passionate about since I was thirteen. The event is one of the largest attended film festivals in the world and includes the premieres of very highly anticipated pieces. This year, as stated in the article, includes one quarter of the films from female directors. This takes a step in the right direction for the movie industry and truly inspires me to pursue my passions in the way that great women, such as Marjane Satrapi the director of the closing-night film Radioactive, has paved the way before me. Some of the other releases include Joker with Joaquin Phoenix, Judy with Renee Zellweger, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood with Tom Hanks, and Ford v Ferrari with Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Not only does the festival have fantastic film debuts, it also comes with an abundance of opportunity for students looking at short tern internships that are perfect for their resume. The festival runs for 11 days and offers university students internships for both the duration of the festival, including red carpet organization, marketing co-ordination, social media management, as well as summer term internships in preparation for the event. Each position will get hands on experience working in the industry and a chance to meet the amazing creators of some of these new releases. It has been my dream to intern at TIFF and it will hopefully become a reality for the 2020 festival.
